Installing on Windows

  1. 1. Plug the DV Dongle into an open USB 2.0 PC port.  The “Found New Hardware Wizard” should display as seen in the picture to the right.  Select “Yes, this time only” and click “Next>” to have Windows search for the appropriate FTDI driver.

  1. 2. Select “Install the software automatically” and click “Next>” to install the FT232R USB UART driver.  If the driver is not found, download the driver from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm by clicking on the “setup executable” link on that web page.  Run the downloaded executable and the drivers will be automatically installed.

  1. 3. Click “Finish” to complete installation of the first driver.

  1. 4. The “Found New Hardware Wizard” should display again as seen in the picture to the right.  Select “Yes, this time only” and click “Next>” to have Windows search for the appropriate FTDI driver.

  1. 5. Select “Install the software automatically” and click “Next>” to install the USB Serial Port driver.

  1. 6. Click “Finish” to complete installation of the last driver.

  1. 7. The DV3K Dongle driver installation  is complete.  The green LED should be pulsing on and off.

  1. 8. Download the DVTool application archive file using a web browser by entering http://www.dvdongle.com/downloads/DVToolInstaller-2.1.exe and run the installer.  Double click on the file desktop shortcut DVTool.  If the application starts, you are ready to go to the Using the DV3K Dongle page listed at the top of this page.

Installing on Mac OS X

  1. Install FTDI drivers from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm prior to connecting the DV3K Dongle.  Once installed, plug in the DV3K Dongle and download the DVTool distribution at http://www.dvdongle.com/downloads/DVTool-2.1-mac.dmg, double click the file to open it, and drag DVTool to your Desktop.  You can then proceed to the Using the DV3K Dongle page listed at the top of this page.

Installing on Linux

  1. Drivers for the FTDI USB chip used by the DV3K Dongle are included in most Linux distributions.  Plug in the DV3K Dongle and download the DVTool tarball at http://www.dvdongle.com/downloads/DVTool-2.1-linux.tgz and extract to your Desktop.  Run dvtool.sh to start the DVTool application.  Note that some distributions like Ubuntu include an accessibility package called brltty that must be uninstalled before DV3K Dongle use.
